To see

één van de prachtige stranden van Biarritz To be honest you need to have a car when you want to spend your holidays in “La Vieille Grange”. Our Chambres d’Hôtes is located in the midst of the countryside and this means that you will have to go out to discover this beautiful region. And there is a lot to see within reasonable distance!

Drive to the West and within an hour you will have your feet wet at one of the beautiful sandy beaches of Les Landes. The high waves are well known in the world of surfers and body boarders.

Biarritz (60 km.) is a glamorous place where you can combine most wishes. Beautiful white beaches, sunbathing, swimming. A must for surfers, scuba divers but you will also find a wide boulevard and plenty of trendy stores as well as plenty of bars and restaurants for a night out.  Drive further south along the coastline you will cross the border and enter Spain. Not far from the border there is San Sebastian. Just a few miles across the border and ….this is Spain!  (125km) San Sebastian is a place you really should see. A historical center with narrow streets, balconies and many Tapas bars. Then there is Cap Breton ( 45km) with its harbor with sport fishing boats and sailing ships. At the entrance of the harbor the catch-of the day is being sold. Driving out of Pouillon straight to the south you reach the Pyrenees. This part of the Pyrenees, Pays  Basque, is perfect to do a tour. Excellent roads cross a beautiful mountainous landscape along meadows with cows and sheep and fast running streams. Stop for a picnic or buy  Brebis from a cheese farm or Jurançon wine in a cave. Or go for a hike – easygoing or more challenging, from a few hours up to more than several days.
